AUTHOR'S NOTE

This book is an attempt to recreate faithfully with words and photographs the day Manolete was killed. However, just as the pictures used to illustrate how developed from a calf to a bull could not actually be of that very Miura, so not all the photographs of Manolete and Domínguín needed to tell the story were taken that fatal day. Enough photographs of the actual corrida in Linares simply do not exist; therefore some supplementary photographs taken on other days had to be used. Also the author would like to thank Katharine Bernard who designed this book with such loving care.
